Calendar Girls from the Characters’ Perspective

As the countdown continues to Calendar Girls, we are featuring a backstage look at the play from those involved.

Next in the series is from one of the characters, Annie (played by Roisin Dore):

Calendar Girls
I will never forget the day Chris suggested the calendar. It was the first thing I felt pierce the dense fog that seemed to engulf me after John died. Of course I said you’re mad, no way. To this day I’m not sure she didn’t just say it to jolt me out of my misery. But then I thought about it. I was still amazed at the people who continued to come up to me to offer sympathy. They all had a story about how John had touched their lives. Many of them I had never met, yet all of them had a warm word to say and that was what convinced me to ask the girls to join in. He’d have been all for giving something back and Chris was right; a new sofa for the relatives room was a great way to do that. Of course, we had no idea how far it would go, but that doesn’t matter. I’m sure, I’d do it all over again. To paraphrase Barbra, “There are moments you remember and you dream of all your life, that was one of those moments”.
